Immediately after the conclusion of the Asian part of the world tour "restless night" Vitas took part in the shooting of two new clips.

Один клип, на известное итальянское произведение "La Donna Mobile", снимался в Ялте, в интерьерах исторических музеев. One clip, for the famous Italian piece "La Donna Mobile", was filmed in Yalta, in the interiors of historical museums. По замыслу режиссера была воссоздана атмосфера итальянского замка 18 века, где состоялся "закрытый" концерт Витаса, голос которого совершил удивительные метаморфозы с гостями. According to the director was to recreate the atmosphere of the Italian 18 th century castle, which was "closed" concert of Vitas, a voice which made a surprising metamorphosis with guests.

В течение трех дней Ялта напоминала итальянский город, так как артисты массовых сцен из-за громоздких и дорогих костюмов не могли сидеть, а вынуждены были прохаживаться по набережной. Within three days Yalta resembled Italian city, as well as artists of scenes from the mass of cumbersome and expensive clothes could not sit, but were forced to walk on the embankment.

В ротации на мировых ТВ каналах клип будет с 1 сентября 2009 года. In rotation at the world's TV channels of the clip will be from September 1, 2009.

Второй клип снимался на авторскую песню Витаса "Люби меня", которая вошла в новый альбом певца. The second clip was filmed at the author's Vitas song "Love Me", which entered the new album by the singer. Релиз альбома в России запланирован в декабре 2009 года, затем релиз состоится в Азии, США, Европе. The release of the album in Russia is scheduled in December 2009, and then release will take place in Asia, the United States, Europe.

Concert in Samara on March 12, 2009

Concert in Samara on March 12, 2009

The weather on that day was extremely nasty as if "the dark force" was trying hard to spoil our pleasure.:) It was snowing all day long but the temperature was above 0'C (32'F). Due to this the snow turned into water as soon as it touched the ground. There were a great many puddles everywhere which pretty much resembled small lakes. Sometimes these obstacles seemed insuperable, I had to turn back and choose another route on my way to the Philarmonic Concert Hall. Nevertheless, I had no reason to worry that I might be late for the concert since I had set out well in advance. I arrived at the hall one hour before the concert and was astonished to find out that the sound check had already begun.

As a rule, Vitas sings at rehearsals new songs from his future programs or even songs from other artists' repertory - the ones he will hardly ever perform on the stage himself. Only a couple of songs rehearsed during the sound check may happen to be from the current program. This time, while I was smartening up in a dressing-booth of the cloakroom, I heard a familiar voice. At first it sang a well-known non-V song which I recognized immediately, then another song I failed to identify - it was totally unknown to me. Soon I left the cloakroom and went upstairs to the accompaniment of the famous Lucia di Lammermoor. Then followed a long pause when not a sound came out through the closed doors of the hall. It seemed the rehearsal was over and I felt disappointed. I was angry at myself for not arriving earlier and then spending too much time in the cloakroom. I missed the best part of the rehearsal when Vitas was singing "exclusive" things!

Suddenly I heard familiar notes from the intro part of "Lie Ciocarlie". Wow!!! I could hardly believe my ears. What a tremendous luck! The next moment I dashed to the entrance door, nearly pressed myself against it and tuned up my ears to absorb every sound of this heavenly voice. Vitas was playing with the mike during his singing as always. He performed the whole song from beginning to end (unlike in Romania where he sang only part of it both at the rehearsal and at the concert). His voice sounded fantastically, incredibly powerful. It seemed it was about to break down the walls of the building where it was encaged like in prison, where there was not enough space for it. It needed open air, vast expanses of land and a high blue sky where it would meet no obstacles on its way. It would float on the wings of a wind reaching out to the most distant corners of the world. I was listening in complete awe, amazed at the power of this voice.

No matter how well I am aware of the vocal abilities of Vitas and the fact that his voice has been constantly progressing over the last years, every time I hear him singing live I feel shocked and blown away. I wonder if I will ever stop being stunned. It seems there is no limit to his growth, conquering new heights, mastering new techniques, making further steps on the way to absolute perfection. Can his voice become more perfect than it is? Yes, it surely can!:) Every time it seems he has reached the ultimate maximum, he proves there is still a long way to go.

While enjoying "Lie Ciocarlie", I kept watching the other people walking to and fro in the foyer. I was a bit puzzled since none of them fainted at the sound of Vitas' voice, which to my mind would have been a natural reaction if you heard him singing this song for the first time in your life.:) However, Russian people are too spoilt, they have got used to taking Vitas' talent for granted, as something quite ordinary. They hardly realize his uniqueness. Russians do not value what they possess until they lose it.

Unfortunately "Lie Ciocarlie" was the last song of the rehearsal. About 20 minutes later the closed doors were opened and the public began to fill up the concert hall and take their seats. Soon the house was full. The people were waiting impatiently for the artist and even made a few attempts to call him out with applause. Nevertheless, the concert started with a 15 minutes' delay which is a common thing for Russia.

The lights went out, the intro part began playing. The curtain was drawn back in darkness. When the lights turned on again and lit up the stage, I was about to exclaim in astonishment. The scene I saw was not what I expected to see. Vitas stood in the middle of the stage with the two ladies from the duet "Vibration" (Vibratsiya). They were playing the violins just the way they do it in the musical video "Lucia di Lammermoor". Wow, what an awesome suprise! Even taken aback as I was, my mind worked quickly and prompted me to shoot this unique scene. I grasped my photo camera and pointed it at the stage. Pressed the record button but... just a few moments later a local security guard rushed to me and ordered to remove the camera. I had to obey with a heavy heart. Such a pity I was not allowed to film! The rules had never been so strict before. Last time I filmed 3 songs and no one attempted to stop me. Unable to use my camera, I had no other way out but try to imprint every moment of this brilliant performance on my memory

I am afraid I can hardly find any words suitable to convey the atmosphere of the concert in the most accurate way. You should have been sitting by my side to clearly understand what I mean.:) Vitas was bursting with energy, he was generously giving it away to every person in the audience. I could sense this energy in the air, it was almost palpable - pouring down from the stage, lighting up your soul, filling up your essence... It was in such a striking contrast to what we observed in November 2007, when Vitas was extremely sick and had no energy to share with the audience. Back then he could hardly find enough supply to sustain himself in the working condition. My heart was bleeding to see him so weak and fragile. As for now, I was happy to watch him making adorable faces, doing all his cute movements, gestures, dances and tricks...:) I noticed a great deal of new ones. When he was not doing any "particular" gestures or movements, he would simply jump up on the spot now and then (like, for intsance, in the song "Smile") as if it was beyond his power to stand still. The energy boiling within needed an outlet.

At the beginning of the "Opera Song" (Opernaya) Vitas turned to the right and bent backward at an angle of 45'. He started singing in this awkward position. Needless to say his voice sounded perfect as always. We have already had many chances to make sure that Vitas can easily sing in any pose: bending forward at an angle of 90', standing on one foot, standing on his head with the body up in the air, making an arabesque or making a "bridge". The position of his chest and lungs doesn't matter, it never affects the quality and power of his voice.

In "Komarovo" Vitas was making odd wavy gestures with his hands which probably symbolized sea waves. I cannot explain what was so funny about them but the spectators were laughing heartily throughout the whole song. Vitas took a long walk into the audience, he didn't miss a single passage-way, reaching every corner of the hall and giving a chance to sing to half a dozen people. The "soloists" received enormous support from the rest of the audience, many people joined in the singing. I should say that although I would rather not hear "Komarovo" in Vitas' concerts at all (since I rank it very low in my personal rating of Vitas' songs), this time I enjoyed it a lot. The way it was usually performed in the concerts had always seemed too boring to me. Now the song was practically "endless", still I found it very amusing. Probably due to all those funny tricks and an overall sunny, happy, homely atmosphere in the concert hall.

The number with two girls from the audience was one of the "hits" in this show. The girls were a bit nervous and gave muddled answers. Vitas said "hello" addressing the elder girl. She blurted out "Dasha" hurrying to tell her name though she was not yet asked to. The audience laughed. Then followed a question about the girl's age. She answered: "Seven". Then, when Vitas was ready to ask the other girl, the first one suddenly realized her mistake and corrected herself: "No, I am nine". Everyone laughed again. Vitas asked the younger girl about her age, she replied: "I am five". Vitas momentarily played up to them: "Oh, it means eight". The audience was roaring with laughter. The performance of Vitas with the two girls caused a storm of applause. Afterwards the girls were left on the stage to sing their favourite song and it turned out to be "Winter". The major part of the public were singing along, the girls also did a good job. A wonderful performance in line with the whole show.

When Vitas was singing "The Bird of Happiness", a funny thing happened. Part of the audience decided it was the final song of the show, they stood up and headed for the exits. When I heard a strange noise and turned back to see what was going on (I was in the 3d row), I gasped with astonishment. I saw a few groups of people standing in the back rows and many more crowding in the central passage between the 7th and the 8th rows. All of them were about to leave the hall and rush down the stairs to the cloakroom. The scene made me feel like I was going nuts. I had never seen anything like this at the concerts of Vitas or any other singer. I imagine what a shock it must have been to Vitas. He risked ending the concert in the empty hall, with no one to sing for.:) I can think of only one reason to explain the behaviour of my fellow-citizens. The song was being performed by Vitas with so much emotion, zeal and enthusiasm, that they were convinced it was the climax of the show, the final song before the curtain fall. They had no idea there were two more songs to follow because it was clearly their first time at a Vitas' concert.

"Friendship" was a super hit as well. The "grandpa" impersonated by Vitas was cheerful, naughty, amusing and very-very cool. He was making such cute faces that no one could keep from laughing.

"Opera 2" looked pretty much a corrida show. Vitas took off his read-and-black scarf and was waving it like a toreador. While singing, he was trying various ways of folding the scarf to bring it to a shape most suitable for his purpose. Focused on this process, he sometimes failed to move the mike to his lips at the right moment, thus some words and high-pitch parts were left out inadvertently during the singing. Nevertheless, it didn't spoil the overall impression. I had never seen such a passionate "Opera 2" before. The public screamed and clapped and some brave persons even tried to sing along the high notes. It was a powerful finale worthy of the whole concert which was FANTASTIC, BRILLIANT, AMAZING, UNFORGETTABLE.

When I went out into the street, it was still snowing, the weather had not improved a single bit. But it didn't matter anything. I was walking on clouds. My soul was singing and dancing, shining with ABSOLUTE HAPPINESS.

Vitas shows off gorgeous high notes and costumes

Just six months after his summer concert in Beijing, the Russian superstar Vitas returned to perform another show in Beijing at the Capital Indoor Stadium on Thursday night.

As expected, the young tenor went all out to hit the high notes while performing Opera 1, Opera 2, Smile! and Jamaica.

Although Vitas' greetings in Chinese prompted squeals from the audience and his impressive high pitched notes aroused applause, the audience appeared to be more restrained than the audience for his last Beijing show. This may have been the result of less interaction between the audience and the star according to the Beijing Times.

Nevertheless, the two-hour set involved some ten costume changes, all conforming to the musical style of each repertoire.

WikiMusicGuide: How did it feel to be on stage for the first time with your hit song "Opera N#2" in 2002?

Vitas: For the first time on stage at about 12 years young, I actually left with this hit much earlier. It was at this age where I took composition and wrote about the songs I wanted. Most importantly, it was in a small beautiful seaside city that struck me most, where at a festival of children's song I left to execute these songs I composed. And as it seemed to be, the public has warmly accepted the songe "Opera #2". In 2000, with this hit on a professional stage, the place was in Russia during Christmas time,

WikiMusicGuide: How did your career in acting, fashion designing and composing begun?

Vitas: I do hope that my career in all aspect will last long - in acting, music, and designing. The designing gives me alot of enthusiasm most specially when it is about designing my site www.vitas.com.ru.

All suits that I wear in all my concerts are my creations and design. It all goes on how I would like to look in this or that song, as well as what image I would like to project. Designing is really convenient since I write songs and music, therefore I precisely know how should I look in a performance. Once a time, my design collections has been pesented on a stage in State of the Kremlin Palace, within a week of haute couture in Moscow. It was my collection and tall orders of women. It seems to me, that I have highly appreciated and happy of my work where I felt it as something being warmly accepted. I hope to repeat the design that I developed and in following displays. It is interesting to me, it grasps me.

WikiMusicGuide: In a span of seven years in the music industry, you had collected close to ten major awards, what was the most memorable? And why?

Vitas: I shall answer with all my heart, the most important for me is an attention of public. Any awards, any regalia, any ranks which I had received a handful from the governments of the different countries, never can it be compared to those smiles and eyes which I see at the concerts when people empathize me when they know my songs and feel my music. I admire the spectator, I work for the spectator, and I shall make all that our dialogue more often.

WikiMusicGuide: What is it that made you join Worldwide League? How significant is it?

Vitas: It was very important offer for me, this business in which I am engaged till now. I hope to spend a lot of time, forces and energy to participate in this process of struggle against drugs. This big harm and a greater problem for all mankind, without territorial borders, a problem from which it is necessary to struggle and solve, propagandize a healthy way of life, therefore to take part in such business - a great honor to me.

WikiMusicGuide: You are very popular in Russia, anything in mind on how you would like your voice to invade the United States? Or in any parts of the world?

Vitas: Certainly, I am extremely grateful to the American public that it already gives me so much attention, that it knows my songs, that to me many letters from the American admirers coming, it is a great honor to me. I shall try to make everything that on my first album which will be released on January, 29th in territory of the USA, was growing fondness to many spectators that my concerts in the near future took place in the USA.

Believe, it will be interesting. As to other countries of the world with greater success already repeatedly pass rounds in China, in Japan, in Korea, naturally, in territory of the Russian Federation and the countries of the post Soviet space. I shall tell, that we with my producer Sergey Pudovkinym name 2008 year of the USA. We hope, that our work will be noticed by you and warmly met. We for this purpose shall make all possible.

WikiMusicGuide: What inspires you to compose and play music?

Vitas: The spectator, its reaction, its emotions, its condition and my understanding, that I is interesting to this spectator. It is sincere.

WikiMusicGuide: Who are your musical influences?

Vitas: I do not have idols and musical idols though classical music is very interesting to me, especially Wagner.

WikiMusicGuide: How are you different from other pop and classical singer?

Vitas: I never analyzed, on what I lack - my differences, my style. I write music, I write verses and I am very glad, that many people like that I do. It is my life, this my creativity, it is my private world and my attitude both to a life, and to music, and to creativity. And as to any differences being unique here is the judge and God is the spectator.

WikiMusicGuide: Ligther side, favorite cuisine?

Vitas: Vegetarian

WikiMusicGuide: Favorite book?

Vitas: The Bible

WikiMusicGuide: Role model? Why?

Vitas: There is no such understanding in my life and in my creativity. I am happy for what I am. I do hope, that my music, my songs, my creativity if does not become an example for imitation then will have sincere human interest. Thanks, with limiting respect and sincere to love all people, Write, come on a site www.vitas.com.ru and I shall be glad to a meeting. I hope, that this meeting will be very fast. A Tentative Probe into Vitas’ Art

A Tentative Probe into Vitas’ Art

Written by Modigliani & Translated by Susan

There is no denying that Vitas now enjoys overwhelming popularity in China.

The style of Vitas’ music falls somewhere between “high art” and “pop art”. On the one hand, he demonstrates a virtuosic command of vocal techniques no inferior to that required for classical operas and he has an extraordinary vocal range that spans nearly five octaves. On the other, the lyrics feature fairly catchy rhymes that make his songs amicable and endearing. In the field of pop music today, which is almost dominated by the young, Vitas is only one of them, a singer in his twenties. However, he managed to rise to fame pretty early, that is, over seven years back and during this time, his style, apparently, has undergone tremendous, even fundamental, changes, judging from all the albums released and major live concerts he has given. The writer herein approaches the analysis of Vitas’ art in the light of the music videos of the title tracks of his albums released in chronological order, including “Opera #1, “Opera #2 from Philosophy of Miracle (2001), “Smile!” and “The blissful guru” from Smile! (2002), “Star” and “Mama” from Mama (2003), “The Bird of Happiness from The Songs of My Mother, “A Kiss as Long as Eternity” from the album bearing the same name, “Lucia Di Lammermoor” and “Shores of Russia” from Return Home I (2006), and “Crane’s Crying” from the latest album Return Home II(2007).

2001-2002

Operas No. 1 & 2 seem to constitute a symbol. The two songs are from the same album and look so similar in the name. Despite this, the ideas that the two music videos convey form a sharp contrast-- “Opera #1 depicts an extraordinary person worshipped by his pious followers whereas “Opera #2 a marginalized person suffering from grave loneliness.

These two music videos of utterly different styles reflected the very two sides of Vitas, a singer who had just made his debut on the Russian stage. In “Opera #1, the singer, fully aware of his astonishing gifts, has a feeling of defiance of the earthly world; on the contrary, in “Opera #2, he is all gentle and elegant, showing compassion for the mankind. Miraculously, these two seemingly contradictory sides co-existed in the singer.

These seemingly contradictory styles appeared again in the following album Smile! “The Blissful Guru” inherited the mysterious and enigmatic style of “Opera #1, continuing with the portrayal of “the extraordinary person”. The only difference was that the identity of Vitas was changed from a hierarch into a guru, no longer feeling unparalleled in the world. Meanwhile, Smile! was completely a story of “an ordinary person”, with focus on the depiction of his emotional and mental states.

The writer holds that in terms of appearance, these two years was the period when Vitas enjoyed his supreme beauty. His eyes sparkling with transparent comeliness exerted particular fascination on others, and that belongs only to a pure and naive child.

2003-2004

After Smile! (2002) was a distinct transformation in style.

A transformation in an artist’s style usually takes place for a reason. Due to the limited resources available, the writer does not know what exactly it was that led to this change. However, judging from the songs released during this period, the influence of the famous artists such as Alexandra Pakhmutova was noticable, yet the death of Vitas’ mother was the major reason.

No one likes misfortune, but a man has to go through the vicissitudes of life before he matures. “Star” and “Mama” were created by the singer, suffering gravely from the bereavement of his deeply-loved mother, the very closest person ever to him. There was less flaunt in these two songs: the heart-piercing countersoprano part was immersed with emotions. His voice, so pure as if filtered, ravishes the ear with heart-rending grief. However, rather than a hysterical emotional catharsis, Vitas expressed “grief without being hurtfully excessive”, in Confucius’ words. Vitas’ music perfectly blends passion, inebriating lure, reason and faith. His belief in eternity bestows his works a touch of transcendece over ephemeral earthly life.

His performance in these two music videos exerts gripping infulences on the viewers and he virtually creates an atmosphere of chilling melancholy only with his facial expressions.

Generally speaking, a man like Vitas who holds fast to his faith never abandons himself to despair, to which the fact that “The Bird of Happiness” was listed as the first track in the album The Songs of My Mother may well serve as a testimony.

So far, the music video of this song stands out with a unique look, virtually being a collection of footages of his live recitals. Filled with triumphant joy and burning enthusiasm, the music video of “The Bird of Happiness” looks, in a sense, like a “school report” of a straight A student to his late mother. The album The Songs of My Mother contains Vitas’ renditions of the time-honored Russian folk songs; hence the widespread popularity since its release.

2005-2007

After the previous two albums with a focus on “telling his own life stories”, Vitas returned to impersonation, that is, playing a given role in the music video. His viewers were delighted to notice his acting, demonstrated in the music video of “A Kiss as Long as Eternity”, more mature and expressive than that in “Smile!”.

“A Kiss as Long as Eternity” and “Shores of Russia” contained a lot of traditional Russian elements. The architectures that appear in the former feature spacious halls, cool colors and simplistic grandeur, so much so that one takes no more than one look before he can recognize the distinctive Russian architectural styles. This trait becomes more noticable when compared with the indoor scenes in previous music videos, such as Opera #2 and “Smile!”. It was also delightful to find his baritone and bass richer and smoother than fbefore.

In the year 2006, Vitas presented his new music videos: “Crane’s Crying” and “Lucia Di Lammermoor”. Seeing from the lyrics alone, one may readily mistake “Crane’s Crying” for a typical love song. However, the music video is a tribute to love of a much broader sense, that between husband and wife as well as parents and children. Vitas, in the music video, is an angel of love, witnessing the joyous moments enjoyed by three generations in a family over time.

“Lucia Di Lammermoor” is the most famous and popular of Gaetano Donizetti’s operas. Its popularity was further enhanced with the exquisite performance of the Blue Diva in the movie “The 5th Element” (1997) staring Bruce Willis and Milla Jovovich. After its premiere in 1835, the aria was sung by innumerable singers around the world. Vitas’ version, adapted with stunning creativity, however, stands out from its peers with his exraordinarily gifted voice and breath-taking voilin obbligato. Even his hardcore fans, who are so familiar with his voice, would be seized immediately with amazement at his voice in bel canto operatic style: so beautiful yet sonorous, so mellow yet forceful, just like a stream of mountain spring, so limpid and lush with breathless flexibility.

All in all, a brief look back on his works reveals his nonstop innovation and boundless creativity. As his audience, we have every reason to expect more spectacular works from this prominent artist we all have been waiting for.

It is our sincere hope that Vitas lives up to his motto: “Veni, Vidi, Vinci (Latin)”, or “I came, I saw, I conquered” in English.

VITAS WINS WORLD SONG CONTEST!!!!!

With the Eurovision Song Contest fever growing, this edition of the
World Song Contest brought us some entries which didn't succeed to
represent their country in the event. For the first time, and this was
an exception, an ESC song even took part. Romania's entry was
submitted before the national final and was then allowed. If the song
finally won the ticket to Athens, it didn't help Romania to win here.

For the first time, top 3 of the previous edition was automatically
qualified for the final. Turkey also qualified as the winner of "The
Winner Knows It All". This could have been a disadvantage. Only
Iceland didn't reach the top 20, while Turkey and Belgium were good
for a top 10 position. For the 31 remaining entries the fight began in
the qualifying round. Once again, and despite some good critics,
Germany and Lithuania failed to reach the final, as well as Austria
and Portugal. But the disappointment came from the Netherlands which
missed the final for the first time.

Big stars were once again part of the show. Italy only managed to
avoid the last position in the final, despite being represented by
Eros Ramazzotti. Nelly Furtado for Canada reached the 13th position
and Massive Attack came 12th for the United Kingdom. Only Pink, for
the USA, reached the top 10. The contest wasn't repeating itself after
Madonna and Céline Dion's victories.

After a closed race with Slovenia, France and Monaco, Russia took the
crown for the third time after WSC .05 and WSC .08. This time, it was
with Vitas, who represented Russia for the second time, and the song
Krikon Zhuravlinim.

The Winner
RUSSIA
Vitas: Krikon Zhuravlinim

Vitas is a very unusual performer, different from others, his shows
break stereotypes of Russian pop music. As a person of incredible
wholeness, unbelievable voice culture and improbable artistic
nobleness he is extremely unusual in the sense of his completely
extravagant strange personality. The voice of Vitas is really unique,
its wide range enables him to take practically any sound. His voice
attracts, shocks, takes one's breath away, but it never leaves anybody
indifferent.
Vitas first appeared in Russia in December 2000 with his hit "Opera #
2". During the time, he released five albums Filosofia huda
(Philosophy of Miracle), Ulybnis! (Smile!), Mama (Mother), Pesny Moey
Mamy (The Songs of My Mother), Poceluy Dlinoyu V Vechnost (Kiss As
Long As Eternity) which were entered into the Top Three most popular
albums in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 (according to the official
sales).
As a winner of many music awards in last five years, in 2004-2005
Vitas also became the most popular touring actor in Russia. His
premiere "The Songs of My Mother" was voted "the best music event of
the year". The album "Kiss As Long As Eternity" produced on October
2004 became the most selling in Russia and post Soviet countries.
Vitas is recognized to be an actor among Russian actors in 2004, 2005,
who has given the greatest number of concerts on the territory of
Russian Federation, the Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belarus, the Baltics,
Israel. More than 10 million copies of his albums were sold within all
the period of Vitas's work. Vitas became the youngest artist to have
performed a solo concert at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow ever. 2006
will be a premiere year for the actor....

Vitas Blows Beijing away with "Sound from Heaven"

The long-anticipated solo concert of Russian pop singer Vitas was held on Friday night in the Great Hall of The People in Beijing. The Star Daily reported on Saturday that the handsome 26-year-old confirmed his status as a legendary tenor through his enchanting performance.

During the show Vitas thrilled the audience with his boy-like voice whose range spans five octaves. Along with his "sounds from heaven", Vitas showcased his unique dance moves similar to the space walk.

To please the Chinese audience, when performing a Russian folk song, the young tenor changed the lines of the refrain into "I love you", and sang them in Chinese.

The concert's climax came when Vitas and Chinese female singer Siqingerile performed a chorus of "A Night at Moscow Suburb", a love song deep in the memories of both Chinese and Russian people.

Beijing is the first stop of his concert tour, which also includes performances in Shanghai, Chongqing, Chengdu and Guangzhou.

Before coming to China, the gifted young star was already a celebrity in this country after his "Opera No. 2" became popular via the internet.

Vitas, whose real name is Vitalii Vladasovich Grachyov, is an A-list singer in Russia. In 2002, the 19-year-old Vitas became the youngest singer to hold a solo concert at the Kremlin in Moscow.

Besides singing, Vitas has also starred in three movies and two stage plays. He is also a fashion designer.

Vitas. Russian Superstar.

Global Village, hah! Russia is on a different planet! Or have you ever heard of Vitas? He is selling millions of copies of his albums in Russia, yet not many know him in the Western hemisphere. (The Latvian singer has sold over 10 million CDs since 2001!)
In June he was invited to Beijing and performed two of his songs for Chinese Central Television. Since this memorable moment he is very popular in the Chinese and Korean internet too – they call him the ‘Russian Dolphin’. This derives from his unbelievable powerful falsetto voice, making him one of the most impressive countertenors I’ve ever heard. His musical style is Pop or Easy Listening with a melancholic attitude and even if you don’t like this usually, you have to hear him.

Vitas wins poll for best Pop Album of 2006 !

The gist of it is that Vitas got the greatest worldwide fan support.  The fans of the three top contenders were voting so prolifically that the server could hardly handle the traffic.  There is some mention of fans of the top artists circumventing the programming limits on the voting, but overall it commends them for their support of their respective artist.
